Merauke, Jubi – The Class II Immigration Office at Merauke Border Control (TPI) has deported an Australian national who had previously served an immigration-related prison sentence in Merauke, South Papua.

Two other foreign nationals remain in immigration detention as they do not possess valid passports or verifiable proof of citizenship.

Acting Head of the Class II TPI Merauke Immigration Office, Pitono, said Australian national Jay Viktor Davis, also known as Jay, 32, was deported to his home country on June 16, 2026, after completing his prison sentence and fulfilling the required immigration procedures.

“As long as a foreign national has a passport, we will deport them. Yesterday, one foreign national was deported because he had a travel document and had purchased a ticket to return to his home country,” Pitono said in Merauke on Friday (June 19, 2026).

According to Pitono, Davis departed Merauke via Jayapura, Makassar, and Bali before continuing his journey to Brisbane, Australia.

Meanwhile, the two remaining foreign nationals, Duong Tan Le, also known as Peter, 36, and Zulfikar Aljubouri, also known as Zul, 34, are still being held in the detention facility at the Merauke Immigration Office.

The two men cannot yet be deported because they do not possess passports or citizenship documents that can be verified.

Pitono said the identities of the two individuals are currently based solely on their own statements and copies of documents in their possession.

As a result, Merauke Immigration is awaiting guidance from the Directorate General of Immigration regarding which country will recognize their citizenship.

“We are still waiting for information from the Directorate General of Immigration regarding the passports and citizenship status. Once their citizenship status has been clarified and travel documents have been issued, the deportation process can proceed,” he said.

He explained that foreign nationals who have completed their prison sentences are generally subject to administrative immigration measures in the form of deportation. (*)
