Jayapura, Jubi – Central Papua Governor Meki Nawipa, accompanied by Deputy Governor Deinas Geley, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Puncak regent’s office and the Puncak Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRK) office on Monday (25/5/2026).
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on a 62-hectare site that is planned to become the new government center of Puncak Regency.
On the same occasion, Governor Nawipa also inaugurated the Elvis Tabuni Guest House in Gome District.
Governor Nawipa said the occasion marked the beginning of a new era of government development and economic strengthening in Puncak Regency.
He said the Central Papua Provincial Government is committed to accelerating development in mountainous regions to improve public services and community welfare.
“The construction of the Puncak regent’s office and DPRK office symbolizes the government’s presence in strengthening public services and accelerating development in Papua’s mountainous regions,” Nawipa said.
He stated that the Central Papua Provincial Government fully supports the construction project and expressed confidence that under the leadership of current Puncak Regent Elvis Tabuni, the buildings would stand prominently and become a landmark for the region.
According to Nawipa, development in Central Papua must be carried out evenly and reach all areas, including mountainous regions and remote villages.
“The development of government infrastructure and regional supporting facilities is part of efforts to create new growth centers in the mountainous areas of Central Papua,” he said.
However, Nawipa emphasized that physical development alone is not enough. He stressed the importance of strengthening human resources through education, fostering social unity, and maintaining interfaith harmony to ensure stability in Central Papua’s development process.
He added that infrastructure development must go hand in hand with improving human capacity so that the people of Central Papua can become competitive and self-reliant in the future.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the two government buildings, as well as the inauguration of the guest house, was attended by members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) of Central Papua and Puncak Regency, the regents of Paniai Regency, Deiyai Regency, and Puncak Jaya Regency, along with customary leaders, religious leaders, community leaders, youth figures, and hundreds of Puncak residents.
