Merauke, Jubi – Candidates competing for Senior Leadership Positions (Jabatan Pimpinan Tinggi Pratama/JPT Pratama) within the South Papua Provincial Government took part in essay-writing and interview assessments conducted by the Selection Committee on Thursday as part of the recruitment process for key bureaucratic posts.

South Papua Regional Secretary Ferdinandus Kainakaimu said the assessments were designed to ensure prospective officials possess not only the required administrative qualifications but also the leadership capacity and strategic thinking skills necessary to lead government agencies effectively.

“This selection process is crucial for evaluating the competence, vision, and integrity of each candidate,” Kainakaimu said while opening the assessment session at the South Papua Governor’s Office.

He explained that the essay component was intended to measure participants’ ability to analyze challenges, formulate strategies, and propose solutions relevant to the positions they are seeking.

The interview stage, meanwhile, focused on assessing candidates’ professional experience, integrity, commitment, communication skills, and readiness to manage government institutions.

According to Kainakaimu, the two assessments provide the provincial government with a clearer picture of each candidate’s capability and preparedness to lead regional government agencies.

He encouraged participants to make the most of the opportunity by demonstrating their strongest analytical and leadership qualities throughout both the written and interview stages.

Kainakaimu also reaffirmed the South Papua Provincial Government’s commitment to implementing a merit-based system in the appointment of senior bureaucratic officials.

Under the merit system, appointments are determined by qualifications, competence, performance, and integrity rather than personal relationships, family connections, or political considerations.

“The merit system is not merely a regulatory requirement; it is a strategic necessity to ensure a professional government that can effectively respond to South Papua’s development challenges,” he said.

He concluded by urging all participants to approach the selection process with discipline, honesty, and a strong sense of responsibility.

“Good luck to all participants. Compete fairly, give your best, and contribute to the future of our region,” Kainakaimu said. (*)
