Jayapura, Jubi – The Selection and Screening Committee (TPP) has officially announced the opening of registration for prospective candidates for the chairperson of the Papua Provincial National Sports Committee (KONI Papua) for the 2026–2030 term.

Registration will be open from 1 to 4 June 2026. The announcement was made by the TPP during a press conference at the KONI Papua Office on Friday (29/5/2026).

The move follows a decision made during the KONI Papua working meeting held on 15 April 2026.

TPP Chairperson Hengky Sawaki explained that the registration period was intentionally shortened to four working days in order to align with the schedule set by the Central KONI, which plans to inaugurate the elected chairperson on the same day as the Provincial Sports Conference (Musorprov).

“On June 5, we must hold the conference. So there is only a short time frame for the selection committee to compile its report. And on June 5, after the conference concludes, the inauguration will take place just two hours later,” Sawaki said.

Under the regulations, candidates are required to secure support from at least 30 percent of legitimate and active voting members. Specifically, each prospective candidate must obtain a minimum of three written endorsements from district andresi municipal KONI branches, as well as at least 18 written endorsements from Provincial Sports Federations (Pengprov) or Functional Sports Organizations.

Mandatory documents include an application letter, a signed declaration of willingness to comply with the organization’s statutes and bylaws stamped with a Rp10,000 duty stamp, along with supporting documents such as a curriculum vitae, proof of domicile in Jayapura, a health certificate, a drug-free certificate issued by the Papua National Narcotics Agency (BNN Papua), and a police clearance certificate.

Chairperson of the Organizing Committee Ayub Woisiri explained that the registration process would continue until June 4, while the conference itself is scheduled for June 5.

“So, that is essentially the series of activities we will carry out until the determination of who will be elected the chairperson of KONI Papua Province,” Woisiri said.

TPP member Otniel Deda added that registration will be open from Monday, 1 June 2026, until Thursday, 4 June 2026, at the KONI Papua Secretariat.

“Anyone wishing to register as a candidate can come directly to the KONI Papua Provincial Secretariat. We have prepared a number of documents that they can collect here, complete within the four-day period, and return on the final day, June 4, for verification,” Deda explained.

Deda emphasized that the TPP would work strictly in accordance with the organization’s regulations.

“We are only mandated by KONI members and the Articles of Association and Bylaws in accordance with the provisions governing the management of KONI Papua management. Our task is solely to announce prospective candidates, verify the candidates, and announce the verification results,” he said.

All results of the TPP’s work — carried out by the five-member committee consisting of Hengky F. Sawaki, Benny Jensenem, Korneles Yanuaring, Otniel Deda, and Telma B.V. Numberi — will be reported during the Musorprov Plenary Session on 5 June 2026. (*)
