Manokwari, Jubi – Investigators from the Teluk Bintuni Police in West Papua have handed over a suspect identified as KAS, 24, in a case involving sexual intercourse with a minor that resulted in death to public prosecutors on Tuesday afternoon (June 23, 2026).
The transfer took place after 73 days of investigation. Investigators also submitted the case file and evidence to the Teluk Bintuni District Prosecutor’s Office.
Teluk Bintuni Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head, First Inspector (AKP) Boby Rahman, said the handover was conducted after prosecutors declared the case file complete (P-21).
“We are committed to providing legal certainty and ensuring that every law enforcement process is carried out in an accountable, professional, objective, and fair manner,” Rahman said.
KAS is accused of engaging in sexual intercourse with a minor, resulting in the victim’s death. Police are treating the case as a premeditated murder investigation.
The incident occurred in Forada Village, Sumuri District, Teluk Bintuni Regency, West Papua, on April 10, 2026.
According to Rahman, the completion of the case file was the result of intensive work by the investigative team led by the Head of the Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA), Second Inspector (IPDA) Michael Andrew, over a period of 73 days.
“A series of investigative measures, including crime scene processing, witness examinations, expert testimony, and the collection of evidence, were completed through solid teamwork,” he said.
For his alleged actions, KAS has been charged under multiple provisions, including Article 81 Paragraph (5) in conjunction with Article 76D of Law No. 17 of 2016 on Child Protection, Article 459 of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code, and Article 473 Paragraph (8) of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code.
“We urge the public not to underestimate sexual violence,” Rahman said.
Meanwhile, Head of the PPA Unit of the Teluk Bintuni Police Criminal Investigation Division, IPDA Michael Andrew, emphasized that police would show zero tolerance toward perpetrators of sexual violence against children.
“We urge all members of the public not to take lightly or treat casually cases involving children or sexual crimes. Every report we receive will be thoroughly investigated,” Andrew said.
He also called on families, religious leaders, community leaders, and the wider public not to hesitate to report any indication of violence against children in their communities.
Following the handover of the suspect, responsibility for the legal proceedings now rests with the Teluk Bintuni District Prosecutor’s Office, which will prepare the case for trial. (*)
