Sentani, Jubi – Matius D. Fakhiri has temporarily closed Stadion Lukas Enembe following unrest that erupted after the football match between Persipura Jayapura and Adhyaksa FC on Friday (May 8, 2026).
Fakhiri announced the decision after inspecting the stadium in Sentani on Tuesday (May 12, 2026), saying the closure would allow repairs to facilities damaged during the disturbance.
The Papua governor expressed regret over the incident, describing Lukas Enembe Stadium as a symbol of pride for the Papuan people and an important landmark for the revival of sports in Tanah Papua, particularly for Persipura Jayapura.
“Lukas Enembe Stadium is our collective pride. It symbolizes the spirit of sports revival in Papua, especially for Persipura,” Fakhiri said.
He urged Persipura supporters to maintain order and uphold sportsmanship, emphasizing that victory and defeat are normal aspects of football.
“Winning and losing are part of the game. As Papuans who love Persipura, we must show that we can be responsible supporters,” he said.
Fakhiri said the stadium, which was built with a substantial public budget, should be safeguarded collectively as a tribute to Papuan football figures who helped bring Persipura national recognition.

Several facilities inside the stadium were reportedly damaged during the unrest. The Papua Provincial Government said it would take full responsibility for repairing the affected areas.
“For now, all activities at Lukas Enembe Stadium are temporarily suspended so repairs can be carried out,” Fakhiri said.
The provincial administration also plans to meet with Persipura management to evaluate the incident and discuss preventive measures aimed at avoiding similar disturbances during future matches.
“We will strengthen collaboration between the government and Persipura management so incidents like this do not happen again,” he said.
Fakhiri additionally apologized to the Papuan public for the damage caused to the stadium.
“As the owner of this asset, we take responsibility and apologize to the people of Papua. The stadium will remain temporarily closed,” he said. (*)
